Dental Sealants in Stockton, CA

Our dentist near you at Lakefront Smiles offers several preventative treatments to ensure your oral health is in great shape for as long as possible. One of the ways we do that is by having dental sealants near you.

While they’re normally placed on children, patients of all ages can get the benefits of dental sealants. If you’re considering this service, we at Lakefront Smiles encourage you to give us a call for a consultation.

What Are Dental Sealants?

To put it simply, dental sealants are plastic resin coatings that Dr. Pushpinder Sethi places on the chewing surfaces of our permanent back teeth. Sealants are designed to protect your teeth from plaque, tartar, and general decay.

How Do Dental Sealants Work?

Our molars and premolars are considered permanent teeth that have grooves. These grooves are called fissures, and the dips and curves make these chewing teeth susceptible to decay.

They’re often more difficult to clean and can be incredibly narrow for a toothbrush to be able to reach. Dental sealants provide extra protection for the grooved and pitted areas by providing a smooth surface covering over the fissured area.

How Are Dental Sealants Placed?

Lakefront Smiles’s dentist in Stockton, CA will start by cleaning the surface of your teeth with a paste and special rotating brush. You’ll rinse out your mouth, and we’ll wait for your teeth to dry.

Then a solution that is acidic is placed on the fissured area of the tooth’s chewing surface for a handful of seconds before we rinse it off. Doing so creates small, microscopic areas and a fine rougher surface than the surrounding tooth enamel.

After the tooth is dried again, Dr. Pushpinder Sethi will apply the liquid dental sealant on the tooth, and it will harden. At Lakefront Smiles, we use a finishing light that helps the resin harden quicker.

Once the dental sealant has hardened, it becomes a hard plastic varnish coating, and you can chew on the tooth again. If you think you could benefit from dental sealants, we hope to hear from you. Feel free to give us a call, stop by in person, or book an appointment online.
